Geomancy is a discipline of magic centered around controlling rocks, earth, metal and other soil. Geomancy has a wide range of uses, but it excels in defensive ones. Many arcane smiths are masters of geomancy and it isn't uncommon to see a feral creature possess minor magical abilities within this discipline. It is considered elemental magic by most. It excels against fire-like creatures, being able to douse their flames completely by covering them in dirt. Geomancy is particularly weak against creatures in the air, as they have plenty of time to see the incoming threat and dodge appropriately. Geomancy is a slow-but-powerful discipline.

Examples[]

Geomancy excels at defensive magic and conjuration and can pack quite a punch in offense, too.

Prospecting and smithing[]

Geomancy has a few utilities outside of combat. It can be used to prospect for ores or gemstones in a certain area and advanced geomancers have the ability to create fine weaponry by forcing metal into certain shapes. This is commonly used by blashsmiths in the production of weaaponry.

Conjuration and geokinesis[]

There are many forms of "rock control" in geomancy. The most common is to unearth certain objects, like a rock blade or shield or to cover someone in a protective layer of stone armor. These type of conjured goods typically aren't very durable, but are often heavy and deal great blunt damage- plus they're easily replaceable.

Geomancy can also be used to trap opponents by surrounding them in pillars of stone and the likes.

Golemancy[]

Where geomancy really excels is raising golems and the like from the earth to fight for their master and do their bidding has many utilities both in and out of combat. Golems make for cheap, strong (albeit slow) workers and their powerful punches and ability to tank hits lets them prove their worth in combat. They come in many different forms, but are most commonly humanoid. Simple orb-shaped ones are used occasionally too, and animals like wolves are also not uncommon. Lastly, but a rather rare practice, animated weapons are very much lethal, even if they're just made of stone.

Offense geokinesis[]

Trying to crush opponents with large rocks or suffocate them with heaps of dirt is a very common practice for many geomancers. Mages looking for a faster attacks will often send a group of sharp shards towards their enemies instead. More advanced geomancers can even unearth large rock arms to crush or pin down their opponents!

Known Geomancers[]

Jem is a geomancer and a luxmancer, mostly restricting himself to one-time crystal shields and "amplifiers" for his light magic. He is only able to control crystals.
